A couple of weeks ago I purchased Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred.  An associate mentioned it and I did some research and ran out purchased.

The 30 day Shred is a 3 part workout  series with each part 20 mins developed by Jillian Michaels, trainer from the Biggest Loser,.  The idea is for 30 days straight (no breaks) you do one of the 20 min workouts starting with level one and progressing every 10 days till you have completed through level 3. The DVD is available at  Target, Walmart, etc; for about $15-20 and on Amzon for only $7.49 see the link below.

So like I said, I purchased this video weeks ago. I did it for about 3 days loved it but due to ailments I had to stop. Well I’m all better now and starting tomorrow, I’m getting back on the horse. I know it sounds corny but if at first you don’t succeed try try again.

I’ll keep you guys posted as I progress through the 30 days . I also invite you to comment, follow along, even join me.

Start you Shred, order your video now:

This is a great article on ways to spruce up you meals to be more weight management friendly. I couldn’t have said it better my self.

My favorite tip from the article: add fresh or canned tomatoes to your pasta dishes. We get so into the jar sauces I never would have thought about adding more tomatoes to get the extra nutritional punch.

This next tip is especially useful for Greedy Girls(& Guys) with families and significant others that aren’t on our same weight management path. When cooking for others we often run into the problem of making separate meals one for them and a diet friendly one for ourselves. Or we overeat the one meal that has been prepared and calling it a “cheat night”.

So here’s the solution: While everyone else eats on the regular size dinner plates, you grab a snack size plate or appetizer plate. Using the smaller plate will automatically reduce the amount of food you eat without having to measure or make a conscious effort to get those smaller scoops of sides. You can fill up your small plate and enjoy the same meal your family is eating.

Shopping  Tip: Hefty (and I’m sure many other brands) makes snack size plates so if you don’t want to buy extra dishes this is an easy alternative to just pick up in the supermarket.

I went to Bahama Breeze last night for dinner, and from the minute I saw the menu I was immediately Greedy Girl impressed and just knew I had to do my first review for my Greedy Girl fans.

The Bahama Breeze menu is filled with waist friendly options that make it easy to choose something that won’t tip the scales without a lot of effort. And I’m not just referring to the low cal menu section or the salad  offerings.

Here are the pros and cons:

    Pros

    • Every entree has a full and lighter portion. You can enjoy all of their signature meals without the big calorie impact and save a few dollars too. NICE
    • Their sandwich menu offers a choice of Fries, Fruit salad, and Tomato salad. I was really impressed with this usually you have to wheel and deal with the server to get a low cal substitution, at BB it’s right there almost inviting you to eat healthier
    • They have a nice fresh fish section which is always a good calorie option. Even with the many ways you can have it prepared jerk, creamy, buttery, almond crusted the fish still runs about 200-300 cal for the dinner portion.
    • Mashed Sweet Potatoes, I’m always a sweet potato fan they taste great and are packed with nutrients, so I was pleasantly surprised to see one of there signature side in Cinnamon mashed sweet potatoes and they are only 260 cal.
    • They have nutritional information listed on the website. I like transparency having the information out there tells me you have nothing to hide. There are many chain restaurants that still won’t make their information readily available *cough**cough* T.G.I.F.

    Cons

    • Most of their signature drinks contain a lot of sugar, they don’t publish the info but it seemed every other drink had sugar cane syrup and the others had some other type of sweet flavoring. I’m not surprised most drink menus are traps but I had to list it.
    • The Salmon Tostado salad is trap while their other salads average around 600 cal, the Salmon Tostado tips the scales a whopping 1045 cals. Coming in second is the Crispy Chicken Club Salad w/bbq drizzle at 880 cal, so beware of these two.
    • Desert, the Greedy Girl’s arch nemesis. Again no surprise here. They don’t even list the nutritional information for their desserts so you know it’s bad. So, either skip the dessert or if that is unthinkable like it is for me split it with friends.

Overall, Bahama Breeze gets a big thumbs up from this Greedy Girl it gives you variety and options without a lot of extra work. If you’d like to see more information on Bahama Breeze and their nutritional information visit their website http://www.bahamabreeze.com

Disclaimer: Greedy Girl’s Guide has no affiliation with Bahama Breeze, T.G.I.F., or any other entity. This review was based on the opinion of one consumer. And nutritional information list was taken directly from the Bahama Breeze website and is available for the public to view.

How many times have you brought a bag of snack lets say pretzels, looked at the back in the store it says 150 calories PER SERVING. You buy the bag thinking “150 that’s not bad”. You get home you open the bag; you’re in the kitchen, by the computer, in front of the TV all while munching on the bag of pretzels. Next thing you know the bag is empty and when you look at the number of servings in a bag it contained 5. WOW that means you just ate 750 calories. So what do you do, you say “I’m never buying those pretzels again” and you live with out another one of your favorite foods until you slip up again.

Well that’s not the Greedy Girl way. Here are a few tips enjoying your snack without falling into the trap of eating the whole bag. Like the title says “Snacks are your friend, it’s the bag that’s the DEVIL”

Tip#1- This is the obvious one buy prepackaged snack packs. 100 calorie packs are everywhere these days so pick up a few in your favorite snack Chessman Cookies, Lorna Doones, Chips Ahoy you name it. CONS: Snacks are a little more expensive than buying the super family value pack and your favorite snack doesn’t always have snack pack size. For another caution look out for my upcoming post: “It’s not 100 calories if you eat 5 packs

Tip#2- Prepackage your own serving sizes. When you come home from the store grab a few sandwich bags and divide your big bag into smaller portions. This way when you are ready for the snack you can grab the smaller bag and munch away. CONS: This takes a little time, and no you can not snack as you pack :D .

Tip#3- Similar to Tip 2 but less prep and more will power. Instead of eating straight from the bag take out the serving size amount and put the rest away.
