Have you seen this new series on TLC, One Big Happy Family? It’s yet another reality show but the niche this time is TLC is following around an obese family and showing there trials and tribulations of being obese.
Let me start with I’m not judging I watch a lot of these TLC specials about obese and morbidly obese and I am more scared and saddened than anything. But I am a little shocked, and disgusted, and spending a lot of time shaking my head. Especially when the subjects are younger and you know that there problem is being enabled by an adult.
I also don’t fully agree with exploiting folks and putting them on these reality shows the put so much issue on their disability (I still raise an eyebrow at the Little People Big World show), but in the case of this and other Obese shows I make a bit of an exception. On these shows I’ve learned that obesity isn’t something that just happens there are ways to combat it and thanks to the 650lb virgin I’ve seen there are ways to overcome it. I think that is an important message that many in our society need to hear.
So while I’m still not completely sold on the One Big Happy Family idea I do see it’s pros and cons. Take a look at these clips from the show below and let me know what are your thought. Is it helping or hurting the family and America by showing these images.
