Brought to us by Real Simple. This is a great lower calorie twist on the classic Banana Split. While 362 calories is still a bit much for a dessert it’s a least better than the traditional versions from Dairy Queen (520 calories) or Baskin Robins (1010 calorie)
So if you have a taste for a split, indulge a little with this great recipe. And if 362 is still to much to handle, use one of the strategies we learned from my post Same Meal, Different Plate and split in half.
Frozen Yogurt Sundae With Bananas and Chocolate Sauce
Maria RobledoMakes 4 servings
Hands-on Time: 0hr 10m
Total Time: 0hr 20m
This recipe is: Kid Friendly, Quick & Easy
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 pint low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt
- 2 bananas, sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted roasted almonds, chopped
Directions
1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and cocoa. Gradually whisk in 1/4 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring, until slightly thickened, 2 to 3 minutes. Let cool slightly.
2. Divide the frozen yogurt and bananas among bowls and top with the chocolate sauce and almonds.
Tip
This intense sauce, which uses cocoa for its base, will make you forget the fattier store-bought variety. Opting for frozen yogurt over ice cream cuts even more fat.
